Marcel's story

An active sailor, Marcel suffered a severe C4/C5 spinal injury after hitting his head on pool stairs in Panama, which led to an ICU stay.

At all international airports they dealt very smoothly getting baggage, ticket's, customs and myself through quickly without fuss.

Leaving Panama , at the airport I had an emergency with dropped blood pressure which required me to be returned to the ambulance and Dr McGuiness put a lure in my arm and kept me stable with medication throughout the journey.

 

 

 

Once on the plane they had the right technique transferring me from wheel chair to seat and vice versa when disembarking. Throughout the trip both Dr McGuiness and nurse Angela were calm, reassuring and good company.

It was a long journey that was hard on all of us, but they didn’t flag and kept positive and professional until I was safely admitted into Middlemore hospital, NZ
